US vs THEM

I usually use this blog to give updates about my life, but today I want to use it to preach a sermon. You see I have seen and heard some things lately that have made me a little mad. We call our faith one of love. We say the greatest commandment is to love one another, but it seems to me that we are not living up to this ideal. Instead I am seeing a church with an us vs. them mindset. Do we think we are going to change people by warring against them? Take this whole homosexual argument for example. As Christians we are supposed to hate the sin not the sinner, and just about every Christian would say they do that. But we dont show it. Why has the sin of homosexuality become so much worse than all the other sins? Why is it so much worse to have sex with someone of the same sex than to get a divorce and remarry? Jesus never said, I hate homosexuality, but he did say, I hate divorce! Why would I be looked down upon so much if I were to have sex with another guy, but not if I were to have sex outside of married with another girl? OK I realize that statement was a little ridiculous, but it is valid. Sin is sin, but for some reason this sin has become unpardonable. I am not about to accept the idea that homosexuals deserve rights as homosexuals like they are a separate race or something. I am not minimizing the wickedness of this sin, but I love those who call themselves homosexuals just as much as I love someone addicted to pornography or as much as a good Christian friend. I wont lie; there is something about homosexuality that gives me the chills, but I so does the idea of someone killing someone or cheating on a test or even worse on their wife. The point is that I am ready to attempt to fulfill the great commission, and the only way to do this is to love people. There is a huge group of unreached people (the homosexual community) that I have determined to reach.

Thank you. The message you spoke is one that has been on my heart for a while now. It is one that I am passionate about. Our faith is one built on love - what is love? It is about showing encouragement to others and guiding them towards Christ. How can this be done with slanderous and cruel mouths? We ought to be warriors for Christ by showing sinners love, not warriors against Christ by showing them hate. There is a way of pointing out wrongdoing and of pointing someone in the direction of Christ without crushing their spirit and turning them away. As you said, sin is sin. Does God put a weight on each type of sin? Does he hate any less than another? No, he abhors all sin, and we all have committed some type of sin. We are no better than any other, except for the fact that we know Christ. Why wouldn't we want that (knowing
Christ) for everyone? Keep up the good work, brother, and know that you have people praying for you. God bless you as you continue with His message.
